Rules

GHAP badminton welcomes everyone regardless of age, gender or ability.

We try to be a friendly, sociable club open to anyone who wants to come along and play badminton. We are always open to new suggestions that will enhance the club or make it more enjoyable for those that come along.

We ask that people who are coming along for the first time might like to try the Saturday sessions initially.

Scoring and serving

Games are played to 21 points
Only 1 service per team for doubles
If you win the rally you score a point no matter which team served

You shall serve in the right service court when your side has scored an even number of points and also to start the game ( 2 4 6 etc)
You shall serve from the left service court when your side has scored an odd number of points (1 3 5 etc)

Previously, only the team holding the serve could win points. If they lost a rally they would lose the serve and their opponents would then have service. Under the new system, either the server, or non-server team, can score points, with the next serve being made by whichever team scored the last point.
To win a game you have to score 21 points
If the score becomes 20-20, the side which scores the next 2 consecutive points shall win the game.
If the score becomes 29-29, the side which scores the 30th point shall win that game.
There is "no service over" , meaning you can score a point no matter who serves.
All other rules remain the same.
