Rules
GHAP badminton welcomes everyone regardless of age, gender or ability. We try to be a friendly, sociable club open to anyone who wants to come along and play badminton.
We ask that people who are coming along for the first time try the Wednesday/Saturday sessions. Monday sessions are intended for players looking to improve their game and are of a slightly higher standard. Any new members or players who do not currently come on Mondays who would like to attend Mondays in future, are asked to contact a committee member, who will help you to decide if you would get the most out of coming to the Monday sessions. The committee will then make a decision and invite you to play if appropriate. We want to be as fair as possible to everyone in the club, balancing members' desire for socialising and fun, with getting good, challenging games. GHAP is primarily a social badminton club, but setting aside one session out of the three available, helps attract and retain members wanting to improve and play that bit more competitively.
Scoring and serving
Games are played to 21 pointsOnly 1 service per team for doubles
If you win the rally you score a point no matter which team served
Serve from the right service court when your side has scored an even number of points and also to start the game ( 2 4 6 etc)
Serve from the left service court when your side has scored an odd number of points (1 3 5 etc)
Previously, only the team holding the serve could win points. If they lost a rally they would lose the serve and their opponents would then have service. Under the new system, either the server, or non-server team, can score points, with the next serve being made by whichever team scored the last point.
To win a game you have to score 21 points
If the score becomes 20-20, the side which scores the next 2 consecutive points wins the game.
If the score becomes 29-29, the side which scores the 30th point wins that game.
There is "no service over" , meaning you can score a point no matter who serves.
All other rules remain the same.
